"Artward Bound Summer Camp"
By Glenn Silbert of Energize Your Mind Studios

Are your kids constantly doodling? Is no surface or piece of paper sacred in your house (not even your IRS 1040)? Don't worry; help is on the way, for you and your little Rembrandt.

The Art Institute & Gallery is the site of a remarkable Summer Camp Program, an extraordinary eight-week experience for children 5 to 18.

- Raphael Week (June 21-25) Campers will work from live human models as well as from still life and forms. The week starts with a focus on drawing skills then moves into watercolor and ends with oils.

- One Large Sculpture Week (June 28-July 2) Each camper will make individual and one large group sculpture using materials such as clay, wood, and other found objects.

- Ansel Adams Week (July 5-9) This weeks focus is working with cameras, the dark room, and the skills of black and white photography.
- Mobile & Kinetic Art Week (July 12-16) Working to make art that moves and understanding balance.

- Ceramics & Potter's Week (July 19-23) Exploring clay projects and using the potter's wheel will be the focus of this week. Learn to center the clay, make handles and make a set of coffee mugs.

- Rembrandt Week (July 26-30) Learning to capture the elements of the landscape while working with drawing materials and watercolors.

- Great American Landscape Week (Aug. 2-6) Learning to capture the elements of the landscape while working with watercolors and then oils.

- Through the Looking Glass Week (Aug. 9-13) Working with clay or other materials, each camper will design and make a chess board and chess pieces.

Camps are daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Early drop-off and late pick-up can be accommodated. Snacks are provided but each camper needs to bring a bag lunch. Art history ?lms will be shown during lunch breaks. A medical staff is on duty every day.

Fee is $100/week for members and $125/week for non-members. A 10% discount is available for either multiple children or multiple weeks. Extra material fee is $25/week.
