Anytime Minutes Are What You Should Be Looking For
By Gary “Phoneman” Kleinman of CELLCOMM MOBIL, INC.

If you’re just getting into the wireless phone shopping mode…and many people are this time of the year…don’t let any of the advertising fool you into signing a contract you’ll regret tomorrow. If you believe all the hype, it seems that every wireless carrier is just giving away the store and everything is FREE. The next thing you know…someone’s going to fool you into thinking they’re going to pay you to use their service. Take a close look at what everyone is offering, then take a close look at where you can actually use those FREE minutes and where you can call with those FREE minutes and what times of the day you have to make those FREE calls.
Many of the ads you see on TBV are for wireless carriers that have very little coverage on the Delmarva Peninsula. What good are all those FREE minutes if you can’t use your phone where you want to use it? Next check out the FREE minutes included with each plan and see how many are during the hours you really want to use your phone. Some carriers make you wait until after 9PM to use the FREE minutes and others begin the FREE minutes at 8:01 PM giving you an extra hour to chat for FREE. Some carriers end their FREE minutes at 6 AM and others go until 6:59 AM giving you an extra hour in the morning.
Make sure you inquire about the Prime Time hours and how many minutes are included during these peak times. You’ll find some dramatic differences. Most everyone now offers unlimited Long Distance included with most plans so just be sure the one you’re looking at has it included. Some carriers offer a FREE wireless phone for signing up…some don’t, but will give you one if you sign up for 2 lines. Don’t fall for that ploy. If the carrier wants your business bad enough…the first line would offer a FREE phone.
It’s more confusing than ever to pick out a service plan and a carrier so don’t jump at the first that you see since you could be stuck for a least a year with a phone or a plan or a carrier you don’t really want.
Lastly and most important … the phone, accessories, the plan and the carrier are only as good as the dealer/agent that stands behind you when you have a problem. FREE is only a good deal if everything works … and it’s my job to always be there for you. I’m the oldest CELLULARONE agent on the Shore and I’ve seen many come and go. ‘NUFSAID!’
