"Maggie Salutes ... Allie Chapman"

Usually when we speak to our “Salutes” candidate there are moves, marriages, schooling, lots of work experience, children, etc... For this “Salutes” we are sharing in the beginning of a life, not the very beginning but... she is what we call the “future.”
Maggie Salutes Allison “Allie” Chapman. Allie was born in Salisbury in 1984 to Pat and Rick Chapman. She and her sister, Anna, grew up in Snow Hill and graduated from Snow Hill High School. Allie was a member of the National Honor Society and SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving), as well as a recipient of the History Award.

Allie attended East Carolina University for one semester. She is now attending Salisbury University as a junior with a double major in Psychology and Social Work and a minor in Gerontology. She has been on the Dean.s List since attending SU, and anticipates graduation in the fall of 2006.

Allie leads a busy life. She has a horse which she enjoys riding and caring for as well as assisting with teaching English riding and helping out at the staples (feeding, turning out the horses, cleaning stalls) two to three times a week. She works about 15 hours a week as a hostess at Taylor.s Neighborhood Restaurant in South Ocean Pines off Racetrack Road. Allie also finds time to volunteer with the Interfaith Care Givers at MAC (does not receive any college credit) seeing a woman who lives in a senior apartment complex. She tries to see her once or twice a week for one to two hours. They talk and Allie discovers if her lady needs any assistance. They talk about various topics, anything that her lady wishes to discuss. Allie has declared it such an eye opener as to what an elderly person has to go through each day.

We all become so involved in our own lives and problems. It was very enlightening to see someone who does so many things with her life and she is doing a lot, taking some of her limited “spare” time to share a part of her self with someone else. It is a sign of what is held in the future for this bright, giving young lady and gives hope for the world around us. Maggie Salutes Allison “Allie” Chapman
