"Tuning Up Your PC"
A computer is very much like a car, the more you use it, the more service it needs to have done to it and the place where your computer gets most of its wear and tear is on the information superhighway. While you’re on the internet your computer becomes more vulnerable to viruses and spyware, especially if you don’t have a firewall. Most people already have virus protection and they scan their computer for viruses, however, many people do not have spyware protection. Spyware are small programs that run hidden on your computer. While you surf the internet they send your personal information to advertisers all over the internet, your name, email address, and what websites you like to visit are just a few of the things that get sent. What’s worse is that antivirus programs WILL NOT pick up spyware. You should thoroughly scan your computer for viruses and spyware at least once every six months for the average user, and at least once every three months for the heavy user. It would also be a good time to uninstall any programs you don’t use, clean up some temporary files, and give your registry a scan as well.
