Have I Got a Logo for You!
By Glenn Silbert of GS COMPUTERS PLUS, LLC
Beware, there’s a rampant disease going through marketing departments
across the country. Logoitis! A logo should be merely a symbol of the
band value promised to customers. When designing a logo (or having one
designed for your company), remember these recommendations:
• Remember the KISS Principle. Keep it simple. Don’t use
complicated graphics.
• Don’t over think symbolism. If you must have a graphic,
make sure it’s simple and open to just one interpretation.
• Don’t assume everyone knows your symbol. Generally, your
company name should accompany a logo graphic. Despite how much you adore
it, your corporate symbol is probably not top of mind to most consumers.
• Don’t spend month working on a logo. Whole marketing departments
have come to a stand still because the logo hasn’t been perfected.
Better to spend time getting the word out about your product or service.
• Don’t think a great logo will make a sale. Your logo might
be pleasant to look at; it may be cool. Chances are, it won’t
make a sale.
• Remember, you’re client. Be more that a little skeptical
when your designer talks about the emotion of the logo design. If your
gut says you still can’t make head or tail of the design, you’re
probably not alone.
• Take your logo on the road. Feedback from your target audience
will be better than that of your internal critics.
Your logo is an important part of branding your company. Design it
wisely.
